Terahertz Spectrometer



This spectrometer allows achieving the highest frequencies, up to ~4 THz. The sample is iluminated with broaband THz pulsed radiation and the transmited electric field is mesured. After Fourier transformation, traditional absorption and transmission spectra are obtained after dividing the sample frequency response by that of the instrument. In addition, by using the phase information, the frequency dependence of the refractive index and complex dielectric permitivity can be obtained.

Terahertz spectrometer: Teraview 3000 

  • Frequency range: 5e10 - 4e12 Hz

  • Sensitivity better than tan(delta) ~1e-1


Temperature Control: Specac 4000 Series temperature controller + Electrical heating jacket

  • Temperature range: 250 - 523 K

  • Temperature stability better than ± 0.1 K


Samples: Solids (typically a film) and Liquids

  • Films and pressed-powder samples are directly measured

  • Liquid samples are confined in a cell with a defined sample path length
