Biography

Dr. Javier Navaridas is a Newton International Fellow in the APT group of the University of Manchester. He obtained his MsEng in Computer Engineering in 2005 and his PhD in Computer Engineering in 2009, both from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, where he held a pre-doctoral and a post-doctoral grant. During that period he was with the Intelligent Systems Group led by Prof. J.A. Lozano. His research interests include interconnection networks for parallel and distributed systems, and performance evaluation of parallel architectures, with special emphasis on simulation and characterization of application's behaviour. In this line, he has evaluated interconnection networks of different nature: direct networks for massively parallel processors, indirect networks for large-scale clusters, and the network of SpiNNaker, a specific-purpose architecture designed to simulate biological neural networks in real-time with special emphasis on fault tolerance and low consumption. He is in charge of the management and maintenance of INSEE, the Interconnection Networks Simulation and Evaluation Environment, which is used in most of the research related to the evaluation of networked systems. INSEE includes a simulator plus several related applications to increase its productivity.
